How do you check the oil level in a renault scenic automatic gearbox.?

.My friends renault scenic automatic I believe, is showing symptoms of being low on transmission fluid. It also runs hot until you get on a motorway, good steady speed, then the warning light will go out.
There isn't a dipstick. The gearbox is either sealed or runs on engine oil.

Renault Scenic:

This depends if it is a DPO or AD4 gearbox.
Neither of them have a dipstick and neither of them run on engine oil.
They both have to be checked with the engine running in park or netreul on flat level surface,if it is a DPO the is a 17mm bolt head inside a 24mm bolt head on the bottom of the gearbox, undo the 17mm bolt head if the oil level is correct you will have a slow trickle of oil coming out.
Also if it is a DPO gearbox it will have a black pan on the front of the gearbox if it is a AD4 it will have black sump on the bottom of it.
To check the oil level on the AD4,again engine running in park or netreul on a flat level surface undo the square plug on the sump if you have a slow trickle of oil coming out your oil level is ok.
I would however recommend getting the oil level checked by a professional as if you get it wrong it damage your gearbox severly.

The gearbox will need to be drained and overfilled. Then you will have to run the engine until the gearbox oil temperature reaches 60 degrees and open the level plug. If the gearbox is a DP0 type then you will probably require anew EVM solenoid as these are common to go wrong. Good Luck
